In the new house, and there are kitties in the world again!

Written By: der5er - Dec• 16•06

We’ve moved into our temporary living this weekend. Our insurance is covering the rent and renting us furniture. That is such a blessing. When you have nothing, it’s unbelievable the amount of stress that even thinking about buying furniture can bring about. So, today, we have a place to sleep, and thanks to our neighbors and the Brandermill Community, we have clothes to wear.

Today, I replaced the computers and (thanks to a neighbor who doesn’t know it yet) we have internet access. Aunt Kitty (Kerry) and Uncle Kitty (Jim), the ‘Grandparents’ of two of our dearly departed cats have come to town on a cat mission. My daughters are now the proud, happy owners of two new cats, Oreo and Midnight Junior.

All in all, it’s been a good day. And really, what more can you ask for?

I was going to end this post there, but I want to make sure you do something:

That’s your assignment.  The smoke detectors literally saved my family’s life.  If you’ve got smoke detectors, check them.  If you don’t have them, go get them.  I’m looking for you all to report that your smoke detectors work in the comments.  Go ahead, do it now.  I’ll wait.

    Dear Greg and Family,
You all have been in my family’s thoughts and prayers all week. We are so glad to hear that your basics needs for shelter, food, clothing, and transportation are being met by your friends, neighbors, strangers, local organizations, and your insurance companies. What a blessing.

Dulce and I have some items to contribute for your children for Christmas but are curious if they have any specific needs right now given what you’ve already received in aid?

I also wanted to inquire what your clothing needs are right now, Greg? I believe you and I are about the same size. I am 6ft 205lbs and feel certain I have some shirts (M to XL), jeans (36-38 waist), chinos, and even shoes (10.5-11) I can send you, if you’re interested in them. My wife is a petite 5’1″ and also has some items she could share if your wife could use them. Please let me know. My email address is below.

With respect to checking the smoke detectors. I am replacing the batteries in all of mine. They all work and have back-up A/C power as well. We also have a carbon monoxide detector in our bedroom…
