And Valve adjustment done! Actually, it still looks exactly like the picture from last night, so I’ve still got work to do.
I used Shawn D’s ‘cam side’ valve adjustment procedure for checking the valve clearances. Interestingly, only one intake valve needed adjustment, but all of the exhaust valves were out of spec.
Tonight, I’ll finish putting everything back together, and I’ll check the spark plug gaps. Then, I’ll post tomorrow about how much smoother it runs and how much quieter the valves are-if I’ve done everything right.
All of this is in preparation for 5erFest this weekend! I’ll get to show off Jay’s painted valve cover (haven’t got time to put the intake manifold on) and hopefully he’ll get to sell another one! Plus, the properly adjusted valves should help me save a little gas!
Plus, I always get a good feeling from doing my own wrenchin!
To Do list: Updated.
Run on December 3, 2011
Valve Cover Finished
Well, It’s all put back together and it looks great. It runs much smoother and quieter. The idle still seems to have a rough spot. Just a little lope here and there, but nothing I’m going to worry about right…
