As posted on MyE28.com, I’m looking for a new used car for my mother-in-law. I’m betting that a review of Richmond area used car dealers is going to be in an upcoming post…
My mother-in-law is finally ready to trade in her POS Mercury Minivan. It’s too old to offer anything in terms of trade in value.
Anyway, I think I’ve got her talked into buying a BMW. Now the question is, which one? She’s definitely not going new, nor does she want it as old as mine, and it looks like she wants to keep her total around $20k. She wants to be able to carry grand-kids with her, so, she needs four doors. I’m thinking that we’re going to be looking at anything from 95 through 2002 or maybe 2003. My preference would be the 7, then 5, and finally 3. She does have some gas mileage concerns, but I’ve already pointed out to her that the monthly difference for her is only about $5-10 in gas (she’s a substitute teacher) per month.
Any opinions from my readers?

Looks like the Mother-in-law’s car is chosen.
My mother-in-law has decided to look for a car. During the search she asked the opinion of her son, and he said she should buy his car. It’s a very nice, very clean, white BMW E34 M5!…

Scratch that… She’s now decided that she doesn’t want the E34 M5. She didn’t want Rob or I to take time off work to drive it across country, and she doesn’t want to pay $1800 to ship it. Right now,…

Well, after a few long conversations, we’ve finally convinced my mother-in-law that her Mercury Villager is unreliable. What we’ve found is this beautiful E39 525i for a VERY reasonable price….
